How to Become More Patient | 12 Tips to Help Improve and Grow Your Patience
Patience is Important. Let's work on growing our patience to improve our mental health!
Hey there!
Are you interested in growing your patience? Or maybe you’re just curious of what is about to be mentioned throughout this email. Maybe you feel as if you can learn something new, or read something that will get you to start thinking about life.
When I was much younger I was considered to be an angry, short-tempered child. I think naturally I have a short-temper that caused me to basically every time react emotionally, which is not what you want to be doing every time something occurs.
Overtime I’ve experienced many situations that have tested my patience, but I have also been learning about the greatness of self-improvement. Throughout the last 5 years or so I have slowly been learning and implementing several self-improvement practices into different aspects of my life.
One of these is that I have learned to really grow my patience, which has helped me manage my emotions a whole lot better. Because of this, I also am capable of really being able to think logically over emotionally on the spot. This is something that even if you don’t realize it, you should choose to learn. Logical reactions cause you to think about how to control the situation as best as you can without escalating it any further or too much more. This comes with having more awareness, which can be improved by practicing mindfulness.
If you haven’t realized it yet, there are so many different things that are a part of self-improvement that all interconnect with one another in different ways!
If you are curious, yesterday’s email covers a story about how I managed to deescalate a tense situation between an angry customer and myself. It involved me getting cussed out at the beginning, and near the end him asking for forgiveness. You can check it out by going back through your emails, or read it by clicking here!
But you didn’t come here to read about my life story. I understand.
So here you go, here are 12 tips to help you grow and improve your patience!

- Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness can help you become more aware of your emotions and reactions, increasing your ability to respond with patience. As a result, you will gain more awareness, causing a better understanding towards the severity of a situation, allowing you to effectively react in a way so that all parties refrain from escalating it into a bigger conflict.
- Set realistic expectations
Unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration and impatience. Begin setting smaller goals in between your larger goals to create a more realistic approach towards completing the ultimate goal.
- Take breaks
Taking breaks can help you recharge and reduce stress, promoting patience. You can take a healthy snack break, or take a nap in between. Practicing meditation, journaling, or even just deep breathing can be an efficient way to use your break time.
- Practice deep breathing
Deep breathing can help you manage stress and anxiety, promoting calmness which assists with how you manage your reaction towards situations.
- Reframe your thoughts
Reframing negative thoughts into more positive ones can help you cultivate mental resilience. If you are faced with a mental obstacle, this sort of resilience will give you the tools, including patience, to help you better deal with the situation.
- Practice gratitude
Practicing gratitude can help you focus on positive aspects of your life. The more you appreciate the life around you, the more positive impact that even the little things will have on your mental health, promoting calmness, patience and positivity.
- Learn to listen
Learning to listen actively and attentively can help you better understand others and respond effectively. The more you can refrain from escalating a situation, the better both parties will feel during and after the conversation has ended. Overtime, the more you practice listening to others, the more it becomes almost habit-like for you. This is great not only for you to grow patience, but others will appreciate how good of a listener you are, bringing a positive effect on you.
- Accept uncertainty
Accepting that some things are outside of your control and uncertain can help you cultivate patience and reduce stress. You should feel the need to improve the things in your life that are within your control. You should not let situations beyond your control be the reason why you give up. It is okay to hurt and to feel emotions towards such a thing, but it is up to you to create something good out of an uncontrollable event.
- Embrace challenges
View challenges as opportunities for growth. Think of these challenges as reps. The more reps you complete the more the muscle grows. This ideal can help not only in fitness, but in business, and developing healthy habits as well. With a growth mindset, it can help you build patience and resilience.Â
- Practice empathy
Practicing empathy can help you understand others' perspectives. The better you understand the other person, the more compassionate you begin to feel towards that person, the more patience you begin to have for that person.
- Use humor
Using humor can help you diffuse tense situations and respond with patience and positivity. Just make sure that you understand how to read a room if you try to use humor in a setting with others.
- Seek support
Seeking support from others can help you navigate difficult situations and build patience and resilience. This sort of support can come from venting to others, to even just spending time with a friend, or family. Hanging out can be beneficial towards growing a positive mindset, which directly correlates with growing your patience. Just try to make those healthy hangouts, and make good choices.
In conclusion, being able to gain great growth in patience is very achievable. It won’t happen overnight, and it will require you to experience more of life’s bs. Like everything else in life, the more experience you have with something, the better you become at it. It is no different when it comes to patience.
If you are capable of reflecting on yourself, and are willing to learn and implement these tips and practices then you are already half way towards your goal of achieving great patience.
Have a great day!
