The Practice of Making Your Bed
The importance on creating the habit of making your bed in the morning
Hey there!
I’m not sure how many people actually do this one habit. I mean even I struggle keeping up this one good habit. You may be thinking to yourself “why is he telling me to do this habit if he can’t even do it himself?” The only answer I have to say is discipline.
If you can learn to be disciplined and keep up this one good habit then you are setting yourself up for success.
Now, as you read the title of this email you can probably tell what the habit is:
The habit of making your bed every morning!
Yes I struggle to make my bed every morning. Sometimes I even forget completely about the thought of making my bed. And yet here I am telling you that you should get in the habit of making your bed every morning.
Why should you make your bed in the morning?
Here’s the thing, Jocko Willink once described making your bed as winning a small battle in a war. If you can keep winning these small battles then overtime you are going to win the war.
See the thing with making your bed, like I said earlier, is that by making it a daily habit you are improving your levels of consistency and discipline. The more disciplined you become the more that your body gets used to the feeling of wanting to get things done. This feeling then goes hand and hand with boosting up your levels of productivity.
By making your bed you are taking action instead of acting on feelings, such as laziness. By taking action you are choosing to do something that although you might not feel like doing at that moment, you understand that it is what is right to do. It brings some form of stability to your life by being able to overcome these negative feelings when starting your day. This creates the necessary foundation to have not only a successful day, but a successful week, month, year, and so on and so forth.
Have a great day!
